On Sunday, November 16, the Municipality of Ammatour in collaboration with the Shouf Biosphere Reserve, inaugurated the “Qatlab Trail”.

The event drew a large crowd of more than 300 participants and over seven hiking groups. Among the attendees were General Chamel Roukoz, former Minister of Information Dr. Manal Abdel Samad, as well as several mayors and local officials. Once the participants assembled in Ammatour’s main square, they raised the longest Lebanese flag; which created a moment of pride and unity.
The celebration continued with a village-style gathering featuring lively music, fresh saj breakfast, and a raffle with varied prizes offered by the event sponsors. Visitors and residents performed dabke dances from different traditions, adding joy and energy to the day.
The event brought together nature lovers and hiking fans from all over Lebanon which fostered a welcoming spirit and built an amiable connection with Ammatour’s community.

The rare Qatlab tree (Arbutus andrachne)—once at risk of extinction—has now become a highlight of the Qatlab trail and an important element of eco-tourism in Ammatour. The trail passes through forests of ancient Qatlab trees, some hundreds or even thousands of years old, showcasing the area’s natural beauty, biodiversity, and cultural heritage.
During the opening event, the Municipality of Ammatour also launched the “Best Photo” competition, giving the chance to nature enthusiasts to share their photos and win a cash prize along with a certificate of appreciation. The competition added excitement to the event; and encouraged many participants to either explore or improve their photography skills. This initiative supports future projects that aim to develop talents and create positive community activities.

This event is part of a series of environmental, tourism, and development projects carried out by the municipal council and its specialized committees. The goal is to place Ammatour on the tourism map and highlight its cultural, natural, and human treasures.
